Kids Intro to Clay

Course Objectives:

• Learn the basics of pottery throwing, including centering, opening, pulling, and shaping clay on the wheel.
• learn 3 different hand building techniques: coils, pinch, and slab!
• Develop hand-eye coordination through hands-on practice.
• Explore various pottery forms, such as bowls, cups, and small vessels.
• Experiment with different surface decoration techniques, including carving and slip application.
• Foster creativity and self-expression through the art of pottery.

Class Structure:

Each session will begin with a brief introduction to a new technique or concept, followed by guided demonstrations and hands-on practice. Students will receive individualized attention and support from the instructor as they work on their projects. Throughout the course, there will be opportunities for students to explore their own ideas and experiment with different approaches to pottery throwing.

Age Range: This course is designed for kids ages 8-12. No experience needed. Younger or older students may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Class Size: To ensure personalized instruction and ample access to equipment, class sizes are limited to 6 students.

Class Details:

• $180 for 4 classes
• Duration: 1.5 hours, once a week
• Clay, glaze, paint, firings, instruction and separate painting sessions provided
• Suitable for kids of all skill levels
